I have a 90 coupe. What do you recommend for new wires? Is the autozone or napa brand good enough. They are 8mm. If I ned better wires, what do I gain?
If you are planning some power mods try the TPIS spiral-wound wires; they fit stock looms and look stock yet will handle the power from a higher output HEI.
BTW, in case you have potential clients with factory automation needs, drop me an e-mail and I'll shoot over my res.

The gain from better wires is power and mileage. Is it enough to warrant the extra cost?? Remains to be seen in most cases. The outter shell is a real gain as most cheap wires will break down sooner than the more exspensive brands with the high underhood heat that the clamshell gives us.
Measure the resistance across your old wires, and compare that to the wires of your choice. The lower the resistance the better. If the old wires are better than the new, why change them with that brand?
I had the MSD 8.5mm, four of the spark plug boots cracked from the header heat. Now I have a set of Moroso blue max race wires, the spark plug boots are higher quality and better able to handle heat.
I just installed MSD 8.5's on my 96. The fit is great. Are you going to gain horsepower? No. Reliability? Absolutely. Plus, they look really cool. For a lot of people, it's just a cosmetic enhancement, just like polished TB's and valve covers. Nothing wrong with that!
They're all precut. I've found them to all be cut a little longer than stock, which is much needed. There's a little room to re-route them to your liking. MSD makes some great wire dividers too.
Question: Do MSD, Taylor, etc. sell the wires pre-cut for each application, or do you have to do it all yourself?
Greg
If you order the MSD's for a LT-1/4 make sure to specify you want the ones for the CORVETTE LT-1. It they send you the standard ones for a LT-1 the coil wire will be to short! :mad
