I just did the wash and reoilt trick to the filter. How long shouold I wait to drive after I have oiled it? Also, seemed like I had alot of oil run off. Is this ok? Also, i envision this oil going into the parts where air goes. Will this hurt it?
I have heard that someone had a problem with oil sticking to the maf wire, but I think as long as the burnoff relay is working this would never be a problem. I think you are probably OK, although I'm sure there is such a thing as way too much.
take the filter and lay it upside down on a towel or teri rag so that the excess oil can wick out into the towel or rag. Let it sit like that for a day or two then install it. This is what have heard to do.
If you feel you over oiled it, it is best to clean the filter and try again. The excess oil can cause problems with your MAF sensor if so equipped. It does not take a lot of oil when you reapply it. When it starts to show a light pink color, stop oiling.
If its over oiled, do NOT put it in the car. If the oil is dripping off, start over again, and LIGHTLY oil it. Let it sit out of the car for several hours (id leave it overnight).
Overoiling can crud up the MAF sensor and make it go out on you. Or the crud can get stuck in other parts of the intake.
Hmm, people really do clean and reuse the K&N filters? Wow, I was just going to replace mine in 2 yrs or 20k miles, whichever comes 1st. It only costs $50 for a new one. :)

You'll get better performance/mpg if you clean it periodically - it can get gunked up

Yes, this is the best way to do it. Don't every try and re-oil it and get it the same color as it was new! :nonod: A light pink is all you need. :yesnod:
