Decided that its just not right to drive a ZR1 on a daily basis (beating it with Norfolk asphalt), and after having a heart to heart with my calculator, it dosen't look like a Z06 is a smart decision right now.
SO...I'm curious:D -
What is the largest, streetable engine displacement available for LT cars. I know the 396's can easily be done on our 350 blocks, but what about anything above 396- do they require a 400 block??
2. Also, what set of AFR heads would you recommend with such displacements? (195cc's, 210cc's, etc??)
3. Finally, I know MORE builds a hellofa 396, but who specializes in building the larger displacement engines mentioned above??
Phil's "Hoover" website really interests me in the larger displacement engines. The 409 LT1 he runs is amazing! Driveability was an issue with him and its an issue in my choice as well, my LT4 is a daily driver.
They don't offer packages larger then 396.. but I know they build a lot of them larger then that.
I have heard alot of good things about ARE. Didnt know they built any larger than 396's- that's great to know! Their prices are very reasonable, and the the parts they use are top quality. Don't know much about their actual work though.
Go with the More 396. It is very streetable and mine just passed emissions if that is a concern. Give Mike Osucha (Osh) a call and talk to him. He'll be straight with you on the pro's and con's and whether it is the xtra $$$ for the xtra cubes.

Ya, the guys at MORE are great. I had my current engine built by MORE Performance. Overall, they did good work. If I were to go with a 396, I would probably send it to them. But for anything else, I'd like to shop around. :yesnod:
I would choose More over ARE to do my engine if I was deciding between the two, but a lot of other builders out there too. More is close to you and has the fuel injected and LT1/4 experience that is desirable for a buildup for you.
I thought Phil's was a 401 (.060 over, 3.875 crank), not a 409. A 409 is a 4" crank in a 350 block that is .030 over. At any rate, the 396 motor is a good one IMO.

Your right Chris  I had "409" on the mind...Phil has a 401.
Do you have any experience with Agostino? What would make you choose MORE over them? Like I said, I know all of the guys at MORE very well because they built my engine- they do good work and they're all great guys, but Agostino walks all over them on prices.
You will only gain streetability, relative to a power goal, with more cubes. For example, a 396 can make 400rwhp with much better idle quality and low end torque than a 350 making the same.
MORE or ARE both are top notch tuners. Since you are closer to MORE I would go with MORE. I had ARE built my blown 383ci. they are 3 1/2 hrs away from my house. ARE did a very nice built up for me. For LT1 they build up to 396ci. For LS1 they can built up to 434ci stroker.
