Ok I want to know what is the best mod for a 1990 L98? I was thinking gears and someone said the low torgue in this car, you wouldnt see much of a change. I changed stock gears on a 5.0 91 Mustang GT and noticed a HUGE change. Why wouldnt I feel this same change. How much to do the gears on a corvette? What gear do I use if I decide to do it and for the money is they any mod with a noticible difference in the same price range?
My car came with D36 with 2.73's. I picked up, for $400 dollars, a D36 with 3.07's with about 55K miles on it. It included the whole carrier, drive shaft and torque beam. I paid a corvette shop $400 to install it.
I can't recommend going any more than 3.07's with your stock cam. You will just take yourself right out of the power band too quick.
Mine is an 86 Vette, but I changed from 3.07 to 3.54's. I really like the 3.54's, but for the money, I would have stuck w/3.07's, if I had known that they were 3.07's at the time. Unfortunately, I thought they were "stock" , 2.59/2.73, etc. and didn't even know to check the codes. Anyways, got some 3.07 gears in good shape, to sell, if anyone wants em? hehhe
If you want a fun street car, build the engine some, enhance the tranny and then see if you want gears. The L98 realy is designed and tuned for lots of low end torque (check out my dyno plot).
