I had been waiting for some parts to come in. I hadn't touched the car in a couple of days. The started sheild, thermal wrap (for fuel lines) and wire looms came in today.
Here is the starter wrapped.(added insurance)
Both headers are torqued down. this is how I tightened down the last bolt on the passenger side.
This is where I moved the passenger side fuels lines to. It also shows them wrapped.
Here is the Y-pipe connected to the collectors
And finally my drivers side completed with my new wire looms.
My dipstick tube and EGR tube blanket should be in tomorrow. then I need to attach the cat-back and fire her up
That is looking all kinds of fantastic. After seeing you to install them, Im not sure when I will be able to install mine. My vette is my daily driver and I cant afford for the car to be down for more than a weekend, plus I live in an apartment so I dont have a garage handy unless I drive to my parents 2.5hrs away. Still, I cant wait!
Looks good! I would suggest you check that rear passenger bolt a few more times as the car heat cycles. Mine kept coming loose, had to tighten it about 4 times before it stayed.
As soon as I saw it was going to be tricky removing the OEM exhaust manifold, I yanked the starter. I can't see the header going in with the starter there. Maybe if your car is way up off the ground you can come at it at a different angle-I don't know.
I transfered that plug from my OEM ehxhaust manifold which had been on the car for about 9 months after I did my smog pump/A.I.R. pump delete. I will however keep an eye I them-Thanks
The starter wrap is insurance. I called TPIS and they said when they do their own installs they don't need/use them and since they redesigned them about 8 years ago there have been no problems. They told me that they don't wrap the fuel lines either, they just move them out of the way.
There's a company that makes a product called "Stage 8 Locking Header Bolts". It uses stainless steel bolts, a specially shaped washer, and a "C" clip to permanently lock the header bolts down. I've used them on two different cars, and I'll never use anything else. Blown header gaskets are impossible. The kit costs about $40. Go to http://www.stage8.com/stage_8_1024NET.htm, click the "Chevy and GM" button, and a price list/ part number list pops up. I highly recommend these.
Looks good! You may want to reconsider that hose clamp OVER the solenoid wire. As it gets hot, it will cut in and possibly engage the starter with expensive results. You might be better off putting the wire on the outside of the clamp and using a plastic zip tie to fasten it to the clamp.
Looks great! I wrapped my starter too, and havent had a problem for a year. I did have plug wire melt though, even though they were wire loomed, got to check these things every so often.
