I normally have my mechanic flush and refill my cooling system.....but this time I would like to do it myself....what is the best anti freeze to use???
should I use distilled water?????
What should I use to flush the system clean?????
Should I use water wetter????
How much antifreeze to water ratio?????
Can you guys help...
1984 vette...rebuilt radiator...cooling fine....but its been over a year since I have cleaned the cooling system....
I would pull the plug on the bottom of the radiator an let whatever is in there drain out.. then i'd fill it up with water from the hose an drive around for a day or so.. then drain it again.. Then i would fill the radiator up with a bottle of water wetter stuff, 1 gallon of anti-freeze (i use prestone) an then top it off with distilled water.. That should give you somewhere in the neighborhood of 60% antifreeze, 40% water.. i run my car at about that in Florida.. Car never see's over 190, even in the summer :)
Are you sure you wanna go through the trouble to do this yerself? It only costs about $40 to flush radiator. If you do, then I would just go w/the premixed coolant that you can add directly to the radiator. No need to mix water/coolant.
