Well, I'll be commuting this year and the flowmasters are going to be WAY to LOUD. I wanna keep my hearing and the performance so what should I do. I'm on a budget (big surprise) and I can't afford to spend $800 on mufflers. I've heard Corsa's and I like the sound. Their not too loud and I've heard the performance is cool too. Anybody have a used pair of mufflers?? Heh, sounds so red neck. :D Or can anybody recommend a place that won't rip me up the butt for mufflers. I know flowmasters can be found for cheaper than $120 a piece, but I can't find the Delta Flow with dual outlets. Those are what I'd like since I'm a pretty loyal fan of Flow Master. Thanks in advance!
I just bought some 40 series delta flow 2 days ago for $79 each. I got the 2 1/2 single in/out but they had the dual out sitting right next to it for the same price so $120 sounds pretty high or are you looking for the specific ones made for the vette. I'm just gonna get some nice tips and do it myself. You could always have your existing ones cut off and welded back on the new ones. Think I also seen them at pep boys for the same price.
I replaced my FLowmasters with a set of hooker Aero Chambers from Summit for a little over $100 for the set. They were quieter but still I had some resonace. Over the winter I took the Aero Chambers off and put a set of Pase Setter resonator tips on. They arn't any quieter then the Aero Chambers and I still have the resonance, but I didn't have to fabricate any tips. They look good and sound really mean. Over this winter I may add some short straight through racing mufflers to quiet it down a little more. In any event they are much quieter then the old Flowmasters.
If you have dual outlets, try plugging one of the outlets on both mufflers. Depending on wether you plug the outside or inside on both sides will give you a different sound. Hope this helps. You can buy an expandable rubber plug at home depot/loew's ect....
I have 2 mufflers in Excellent shape that I removed from my '85. They are aluminized... and fairly new. I took them off because no matter what I did, I couldn't get them loud enough. I even removed the CC from the car.
Ended up going with a Borla XR1 (very loud now).
Anyway, since your on a budget... I'd sell you both of these for $40 plus half shipping cost with you. They are just sitting in my garage...
They are quiet... but still let your car sound like a Vet at idle...and getting on it.... but they run quiet w/ no resonance. I can email you a pic if you like... or maybe this isn't what your looking for. But it caught my eye because you wanted quiet mufflers... these are it.
The Dynomax Super Turbo's have a very deep tone, and are somewhat louder than stock. I think they sound great. The flowmasters can make a Vette sound like a freaking mustang.
Go to a wrecking yard and see if you can find a good set of '91 mufflers. They are larger than the '84 to '90 mufflers and are less restrictive, but nearly as quiet.

I thought that borla didn't make a xr-1 raace style exhaust for the l98? where did you get yours from?
