1993 c4 lt1
Doing an LE2 + 218/224 LE cam swap on my LT1. Almost there but i am told that when swapping cams you should not re-use the oil pump drive gear shaft as it can be worn in to the old cam, re using results in it breaking or stripping the cam gear threads, and either snapping the camshaft or the oil pump shutting off to zero pressure.
The engine has 40,000miles on it, the oil pump drive looks ok, the gear only has polish marks and no serious wear. The plastic housing that holds the oil pump drive gear looks OK, no damage or cracks. The old cam is the same - very minimal polish marks on the gear teeth.
Thoughts gents?

More looking for anecdotes or people who have re-used and had it blow up on them

If i was going to replace it would probably be an aftermarket aluminium or steel housed shaft, instead of that brittle plastic **** job.
