I Busted the 12's!
I just got back from the Track. Previous best with 58mm Throttle Body, 44 psi fuel, BOSCH plugs, Bad Opti spark, No Ram Air and NITTO 555R, 315/35/17 DR, stock Tranny was 13.021 at 105.89. This was after I put the new heads, cam, intake, computer and 2800 Torque convertor on. I was a little upset, with the numbers.
Tonight witha 52MM throttle body, 46 psi Fuel, NGK plugs, good opti spark, Ram Air, B&M shift kit and BF Goodridge Comp TA R1, 275/45/17's (I got these from TrueDuals, we thought we could get about 3 passes on them, we were right) I turned a 12.799 at 107.14. That was with the worn 275's spining off the line and again when I hit second. The second and third runs kept getting worse, the tires spun all the way through 1st and a little in second. I turned a 13.176 at 106.37 and the last run was 13.186 at 107.86. I finally gave up, before the tires blew. Once I get the 315/35/17 NITTO's back on and I get the launch down I should be about 12.5 or better.
The Ricer that was talking crap about Vettes a couple of weeks ago was there. He ran a 13.5 at 100. I just waved when he went by. :seeya

Nice improvement; what kind of short times did you pull? I assume it's a 6-speed.
BTW, nice job on the "ricer"; I can understand being inflated with your ride's capabilities on the street, but not at the strip.
Actually is an Auto. Here are the short times
1st run
react=.972(usually around .8
60ft=1.936(usually around 1.88
330ft=5.387(best)
1/8et=8.246(best)
1/8mph=87.60(best)
1/4 et=12.799(best)
1/4mph=107.14
2nd run
react=.749
60ft=2.173(tires were spinning fast)
330ft=5.694
1/8et=8.587
1/8mph=84.59
1/4et=13.176
1/4mph=106.37
3rd run
react=.730
60ft=2.152
330ft=5.705
1/8et=8.604
1/8mph=84.71
1/4 et=13.186
1/4mph=107.86(best)
I dont know why my best 1/4 mph was on my worst run.

Man that's great. What track were running? Ever come to Fayetteville or Rockingham?
Harold
It was at Coastal Plains. Its about 15 min from my house. After my third run, they told me to go to the stageing lane and to get my dial in. I looked at the lady and asked her to repeat it. She said I qualified for the quick 8. I did not even know they were running quals. I was just out there trying to tune. the fasted street car was a 69 Nova, 12.4@110. If the tires were not going to poopie, I would have stuck around. I have never been to the Fayettville track. I might make a road trip.
Fayetteville is pretty nice. Vette action been kinda slow this year including me, I've only been twice. T&T Thur nite, races Sat or Sun, not sure. http://www.fayettevillemotorsports.com I think. Post if you are going sometime, I will try to go.

I dont know why my best 1/4 mph was on my worst run.
The 60' times are why your quickest(et) run was on the slowest(mph) pass. With most of my previous drag cars, a .1 in 60' was worth .15 to .2 in et! So if you had a 2.00 60' with a 13.00 1/4, a 1.9 60' would be 12.80/12.85. This might vary a little, but with all things the same should be a good rule of thumb. :cheers:
I recently went to a 2,000rpm TC (stock was 1,500rpm) but was still launching at the old 1,000rpm. After updating that parameter, Drag2000 told me that I could bring down my short time and ET by launching at 1,600-1,800rpm (the brakes won't hold her any higher).
I've done this on the last two T/T sessions and sure enough it realy helped both time slip data.
Last night I was talking with an experienced drag racer who pointed out that when I launch off idle the TC has to flash up AND the suspension has to react before the car can move forward. But, by launching closer to the stall point, not only the TC doesn't have to flash up so far but also the suspension is pre-loaded so those two lags have been reduced. Also, staging shallow will lower short time and ET.
So, if you're not already doing these things, combined with your new rubber you should see some more improvement in ET, which is already very nice.

What was your launch RPM?
I usually rev it up to 2000 RPM. I have the heavy duty brakes, so that Helps. Around 2000 rpm I hear the brakes starting to strain. At around 2300 the car will start to creep forward.
Congrats on breaking the 12 second barrier (distantly related to the 13 and 14 second barriers)! With your trap speed, your car is capable of approx. 12.50's, so work on that 60' time and you're rockin.
