Default Mods for an 85?

I just got my car and need to get some mods done to it. I have noticed that the box has been cut around the filter but that is all so far that I have seen. Please post any that you know of for this year and any that can help get me my power that I crave. Thanks ahead of time and have a great one. Ooh-Rah!!!!!!!!!!! :flag :seeya

WELL........ where do you want to start? maybe by investigating what else they may have done first. Did they put in a K&N filter? How about an airfoil in the throttle body?........... has the MAF been modified or replaced with a modded unit?. What about the exhaust? .........maybe a cat back system is there......... what I'm trying to point out is investigate what you have and then decide where you want to take it :seeya

In the middle of building up my 85. So how much power or better to ask how much money will you want to spend?

It all depends on how fast you want to go basically. But i think the best advice is to drive the car for about 6mos. and fix anything that breaks and also get a good feel of what you want from the car.

However, the free stuff and the mods are usually:
1. Remove the two screens on the front and back of the MAF sensor (which is between the accordian hose and the air filter box).
2. 160 thermostat
3. K&N filter, although i bet you have it already if the lid is cut open.
4. Throttle body bypass (disconnect the hoses leading into the TB and mate them together)
5. fan switch, wire it to the main fan so the coolant temps will stay reasonable.

For the bigger stuff, you should start with a hp #, or an ET in the 1/4mi you want to shoot for.
Headers Longtubes, ceramic coated~15hp
Good exhaust~10hp, add a Random Tech Cat for best flow
AFR 190 heads~hp varies greatly, depends on intake and cam

Then decide which of the 3 routes to big hp: Superram, Miniram, modded out TPI (bigger base, runners, ported plenum). These 3 setups will dictate what cam you pick as well.
