Default Looking Into my 1st Corvette Feedback please..

OK, so i'm getting into serious thinking about a fast car for a low price, i'm looking to get a 90 corvette, and i would apreciate your feedback on what would be the best route to do this. i want a 90 corvette with 500HP. so my options are look for a corvette w/ an LT1 engine, or LT4 engine and rebuild those motors, or find a corvette that doesn't have an engine. or even does, and dropping a 450HP crate engine in...which way would probably be the cheapest to go about getting a 90 corvette over 500HP?

ok, i was given the wrong information. but anyways, purchasing a corvette w/ engine and mod/rebuild it to get 500HP, or get one w/ out an engine and drop a 450HP crate motor in and mod it to 500

The '85-'91 Vette had the L98; the '92-'96 Vette had the LT-1 (among other) engines.

Average pricing, according to Corvette Fever, Sept. 2002, ranged from about $8,000 for a '85 Coupe to $14,000 for a '94 Coupe.

An advantage to the LT-1 is that the intake already supports breathing at high RPM; with an L98 you will need some $$ to get it to breath well above 5,000rpm.

So, as always, life is compromises.

You may want to look at a ZR1. But that would be above your price range.

try and find a nice deal on a 92-93 6spd with the heavy duty suspension option. you already have a good intake & slightly better head castings, if you bought a 80k mile 1992 car for $13,000 in good shape, pulled the engine & spend rougly $5000-$6000 for engine work & a new clutch you would meet your goal of 450 flywheel HP & it would be completely civil for street driving as well. keep in mind on most used vettes you'll need to do a brake job & shock job as well. almost every single used vette i've seen that's "stock" has worn out shocks & half beat brakes. figure in $1000 for a set of konis and hawk pads on all 4's with a nice front rotor, drill/slot combos maybe. what you've now done is created a $20,000 car or $21,500 if you change out the wheels & tires.

If you want 500hp, you will be shelling out some major money.

On an L98, youd need a Miniram/Superram on a big engine, like 396+ci. With a big cam too.

Or you could keep it as a 350, and throw a SC or TT setup on, will prolly cost about the same.

wanna stay away from turbo's til i get like 450-500. i'd kill myself if i didn't get used to that power w/ out turbo's first. i prolly shouldn't even look to get that much power, i slide around enough in my 140hp 240SX

500 hp is alot especially if you are measuring it at the rear wheels. If you are not good at working with motors, the best way is to find someone who already has a built car. That way, all of the bugs will already be out of it.

Good luck!

why would you buy a car ith 80k miles, and pull the engine? you would be better off buying a higher milae car for less money and the go through it, replacing everything with performance parts.
