I did my emissions testing the other day and I failed. The reason I failed is because the previous owner of my car for some reason or another gutted the passenger side cat. I need some cost effective ideas for passing. I am on a tight budget. I am good with welding so if there is another cat I could pull from a junk yard and weld up I would more then appreciate the info. thanks.

You'll definately need a cat to pass IM240 (the roller test). Why don't you give Vette2Vette a call? They have used cats from salvaged Vettes and they're only about 30 mins from Naperville.

Some here on the forum have passed smog tests with no cats. I want to know the trick.
If the test is just an idle speed sniffer, you can pass without cats. If the test is on the rollers (IM240) you'll never pass without cats.

The cheapest thing you can do is a bribe.
:nono: And as soon as you get caught it won't be the cheapest thing you can do. I hate emissions testing and I think it's a joke, but if we had it I would make my car pass it. Bribery will get you in trouble eventually.

The way to figure if the Cat is causeing the problems You have to see the chart, If the HC and the CO are peaking at the same time, it the cat, they should be peakin at opposite times....
NoX... Is produced from the cylinder wall temps being to high... You need to find a way to cool down the car...
Couple tricks are.... to boost fuel pressure, Take the vacuum hose off the Fuel pressure regulator... But doing this will bring up the HC and CO levels.... make sure you have enough head room to do this.... This should help... If that doesnt work try Water squirt into the intake, or put a block of dry Ice on the Air Filter
