Default UPS Driver's have been busy !

Along with heads and intake the UPS driver took to SSgtGoodWrench, they also brought me my new radiator.

It is very apparent that there are still folks bending their Vettes into what GM should have built, instead of what they did ! (at least my opinion of should -vs- did, keeping in mind the passage of time and economic reality :-) )

I took advantage of DeWitt's 15% off sale and bought one of the dual core radiators. My car runs hot. Yes I know about cleaning and such, but it is a low mileage car (13,800 now) is clean in the stack, etc. I have been down this road before with an overheating diesel.

The 04.5 / 04 Duramaxes had an overheating issue and GM lost a few law suits. Unfortunately for me, we had some family health issues going on at the time and we weren't able to get back to the mountains with a video camera and our trailer to document the issues. Which is how the other folks beat GM in court and sued them for false advertising on the capacities the trucks were able to tow. Mine would run hot just pulling a 5180 lb travel trailer on flat ground. A couple members of one forum got entire new trucks out of the deal, not a depreciated amount like normal lemon law buybacks, but entire new trucks out of it !

The solution was to add extra radiator capacity. A guy came up with a design to put an extra radiator behind the bumper and mine was built by Ron Davis. You have seen them in some of the Hot Rod shows on TV. They are another high quality builder like DeWitts is.

In 2006 GM increased the radiator size of the Duramaxes by 33%. So it was just not in the C4 Vettes that they under estimated cooling issues. They continued building vehicles right on the edge up until getting really burned on the Duramax issue and probably still do. Somewhere there is another problem lurking to surface in one of GM's vehicles.

Besides adding radiator capacity, I had to change the turbo inlet mouthpiece, the intercooler and the hot and cold side pipes. It is a towing monster now and will hold you back in the seat when the turbo comes on. It is scary fast for a big, crew cab 4x4 and the newer ones have even more HP and torque.

I had contacted Ron Davis about a radiator before I found out about DeWitts. They wanted over 300 more to build basically the same thing, so the DeWitt radiators are really an amazing deal and any of you sitting on the fence really should get them while the discount is on.

To sum it up, as so many on this forum have posted in the prior years (which is how I realized that the car really did need a radiator) the cars were running right on the edge and that a good aftermarket radiator fixes the issue. Running right at the edge allows the majority of the cars to function with no issues, but cars that deviate to the high side of tolerance are going to run hot, even with no modifications, which is how mine currently is.

Once the weather really breaks and I get over the shoulder surgery I just had, I will be a busy guy installing all the parts I have acquired. Unfortunately it is still another 4 to 5 weeks before I am even allowed to lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee. I went in to have bone spurs ground out and the surgeon found the tendon that attaches the bicep was frayed and not looking the best. He was concerned it was going to break, so he cut the end off, pulled the old parts out, drilled a hole in some bone and stuck the tendon in, and used a biodegradable screw to anchor it.
