update - putz and his oil adapter
Oil leak near oil filter. This is an offset oil filter adapter, reason is to clear
the cat. 94/95/96 use the same adapter. GM no longer has this adapter,
nor does Ecklers or several other parts places. So if you need one the
only way I found is on line - through ebay is one example.
Removing old adaper. Mine had two 1/4 allen bolts. If you use the tool
where their is a short allen hooked to a socket, the socket is to big to
get up in where the bolts are. I had a 1/4 allen about 5 inches long, cut
off the hook part and used a 1/4 socket with ratchet.
Next, my adapter was stuck like glue, the suggestion that worked was leave the
filter on at hit the filter back and forth till it comes loose,(filter protects
the adapter.
re assembly after cleans of the old gasket material is straight forward.
the reason that I was looking for a new adapter, was all of the small
crack all over the housing, was told that these were casting cracks,
that the adapter was ok.
There is one gasket, which seperates the clean and dirty oil. This one
will not cause an external leak, but the large o-ring does. The thicker
the gasket the less the pressure on the o-ring which can result in a
leak. Read several articles on this, most recommend using the GM
original gasket which is actually thinner than the after market.
thanks again for your help - hopes this helps someone Putz

1st I scrapped with a knife, then used a scuff pad.
