Headers.Stainless or ceramic coated. Difficulty in installing them
I have an 85 Z-51 4+3 manual, which I want to put on headers. The engine have the stock heads allthough pocked ported.
I thought of having stainless steel headers as I have heard that the ceramic can chip off the ceramic if bent or having some mechanical impact on it.
As I live in Norway it is important for me to have headers that is really bolt ons without modifications.
1. How is the Lingenfelter headers the diameter of the tubes. Does they interfere with the starter, dipstick tube or any other things.
2. Does TPIS have stainless steel or is it only the ceramic ones? I would rather go for ceramic if they come on without any mods. Have seen in the forum that the dipstick can be a problem. Is it for the manual version as well. Have also heard that the support tube for the alternator can be a problem for one of the tubes on the headers.
I would appreciate any comments and advice!!!!!!
Will there be any gain to feel by putting on the headers??
Best regards Jan-Erik

From performance and durability standpoints a good ceramic coating is superior to other finishes. I've read on the Forum about some problems with the TPIS coating but only good things about the HPC coating.
I have had HPC coated headers (Edelbrock TES) on my IROC for over 5yrs and they still look fine with no chipping.
It looks as though TPIS provide the easiest accessory hookup as they come with header bolt standoffs built in, as do our stock manifolds. Though you may need to move fuel lines a little and shield the starter. You might want to contact TPIS about a warrantee on the finish.
I think you will have some minor fitment issues with even the major contenders for good headers; so need to deal with some adjustments during installation.
