It took me all day to change the core in my 91. It is changed from inside and the dash on the right side has to be taken apart as well as the dash cover. I would't want to do another, but I wouldn't pay a shop either. I'd be afraid they wouldn't put everything back
Funny that this should come up as I have spent the past 2 days replacing mine in our 91, we bypassed it in July as didn't have the time to replace it at that time. Tried to send this last night but wasn't able to.
You can borrow mine if you Promise to send it back after repairs or, here's how to make one. Go to your local Plumber supply and purchase the following: 1 90 degree ell 3/4" to 1/2" reducer, 1 90 degree ell 1/2" x 1/2",
1 1/2"coupler (for joining two pieces of 1/2" pipe), a short piece of 1/2" copper pipe, and 1 very short piece of 3/4" copper pipe. All fittings and pipe are copper. Cut 2 3/4" pieces of 1/2" pipe and 1 1 1/4" piece of 3/4"pipe. The piece of 3/4" pipe goes inside the 3/4" the 3/4"end of the 90 degree reducer, one piece of 1/2" 3/4" longgoes inside the other end of that 90 degree ell, slide the 1/2" ell over that piece so the two ells butt together, slide the remaining piece of 1/2"pipe 3/4"long inside th other end of the 1/2" x1/2" ell and finally slide the 1/2" coupler over that piece so it butts up against the 1/2" ell. Clean all section & flus, reassemble and lay on flat surface and solder. You now hav a "U" shape contraption whose large and small ends will fit inside the hoses. Install, clamp, refill coolant & check for leaks. Enjoy. If you need more info or have questions you can email or IM me. Good luck.
