Default high idle and sputter

Since I got my 84 back I notice the idle when I first start it is real high and even after it warms up it still is about 100=200 rpm higher than it was before. It also sputters or coughs at a rapid pace that slows as the engine warms up. Dose it sound like a vacuum leak?

Im not about to puff on a cigar is there any other way to do a smoke test?

Do a google search on DIY smoke machines. Quite a few different options.

I built mine from a paint can, a couple hose repair fittings, a few feet of hose, some incense cones for smoke and an air mattress pump to blow the smoke.

I did not see were you mentioned mileage. Symptoms you describe can be caused by a faulty front coolant sensor, dirty or failing IAC valves or a failing MAP sensor.

The CTS and pigtail were done not long ago as was the tps after it threw a code. I wondered sometimes about the iac it probably should be replaced and the tb cleaned and maybe new bushings.

It almost seems intermittent today after it warmed up and quit hiccuping it was at 600 and sounded good.

When the idle is highest is when it sputters or hiccups the fastest. As it hit 130 it seemed the rpms started to drop and the hiccups slowed and some more at 140 150 etc by 180 it was about returned to normal.

Since the body shop had the hood off to fix the broken hinge, I looked around near the front under hood area and do see a hose off that comes from the top of a purge valve I think it is. But I cant see anywhere it would go to or why it was ever removed.

Move a unlit propane torch around and see if it changes.
