I was driving the car on Friday night and decided to use the defroster. When I turned it on, the inside of the windshield fogged up and the car smelled of antifreeze. The temperature gauge read normally and there was no visible loss of fluid. My suspicion is this - About two weeks ago, I had the car in for repair because of a short that caused the dash not to work. They removed several parts of the car while they were working on it (distributor shield, wiper motor, etc). I'm thinking that they somehow damaged the heater core while working on the car. I didn't notice it until now because I didn't use the heater/defroster until now. What do you guys think? Could it be the heater core? Does my theory make sense? Thanks in advance for any ideas you have!!!!!
I called the dealership that did the original repair, and told them what was wrong and why I thought they caused it (I was very diplomatic and courteous). They're going to look at it tomorrow. I guess they'll wind up fixing it either way; it's just a question of who winds up paying for it. I'm hoping it's them and thinking it'll be me. I looked over the links you posted. There's no way I could tackle a job like that. Thanks for your input!
One more question - While they've got the car ripped apart to replace the heater core (assuming that's what it is) is there anything else I should have replaced in that area as long as the car is torn apart? It would make sense to be proactive as long as it's in pieces anyway. Thanks again for your input!
