Would there be a problem installing Bilstein Sport shocks on a car with soft ride suspension? I'm sure people have done it. What were the results? I want to install coil overs at a later date and would like to get a shock that I could potentially use for that also.
i won't pretend to know all the products that are out there, but the bilsteins i have for my '84 have no provision for a coil over upgrade.
from what i have seen of coil over shocks the biggest portion of the cost is the shock not the springs i know most are affected by budget considerations why do the work twice?

Re: Bilstein shock question (johndezman)
TO adapt the shocks for coilovers they cut a notch in the bottom part of the shock about 2 inches up from the bottom. the plate for the coilover then rests upon that.
wouldn't they start with a heavier walled tube for the shock in order to have enough "meat" to machine the groove/notch? i'd think any machining on a standard shock body would weaken it significantly!
Why are you going to coil-overs when you can make the car handle better when you upgrade the stock suspension configuration. We don't recomend coil-overs because there is too many modifications needed to the frame. You can call Doug Rippie Motorsports (763-477-9272), he does a lot of coil-over stuff.

The only modification needed to the frame is elongating the hole for the back shock. The fronts will only require a heim joint setup. Which I believe you guys sell.
I have the sport shocks on the back of my race car. I just had to put a soft
spring on the back and went to Watkins Glen. It is a little too soft at high speeds, 120 m.p.h. + . Sunday we had to race in the rain and it was a good combo. If you are doing this for street with some track times I beleive it would work fine. I only have these on the rear though up front i have the extremes.

To put coil-overs on a C-4 you should reinforce the shock-mounts. The stock shock-mounts weren't designed to hold the weight of the vehicle. That's why it's easier to just upgrade the stock configuration. :yesnod:
