Default Brake problem?

It seems that I have developed a brake problem. As I come to a stop, there is a "grinding" noise (maybe hard rubbing sound is a better description) coming from the front right wheel (as far a I can tell). I first noticed it after I had to drive it on some wet gravel after a hard rain, and it has been doing it sporadically ever since (only about 4 days). It doesn't do it when I am braking from anything above about 5 mph. I can break at 60 and no noise, but once I get down to about 5 then it starts. I had the breaks checked at the last oil change (about 1000 miles ago) and there was about 25% left on the front, could it be worn through by now (I don't do a lot of heavy breaking). Should I have them professionally checked, or is this something I can handle? And, if it is the brakes that need to be professionally checked, should I take it to a Chevy shop to do it, or will a place like Midas be okay? Thanks...

It might make the sound as well at high speeds, but you just cant hear it cause of how fast you are going. You might have a warped rotor, but the guys who checked your barkes earlier should have noticed that. Id take it to a brake specialist and see what they say.
