Default Dash Sqeak, going insane, please help

When sitting in the drivers seat the squeak seems to be coming from the top right of the dash board. Many hours spent looking for it to no avail. I allmost hate to drive the car because ot it. Anyone have any ideas?

 Can I assume that you have located and gently tightened

1) all the screws that hold the dash pad
2) screws securing the windshield pillars
3) screws securing the piece (it has a name) across the top of the windshield
4) fuse box cover

If you have, I am out of ideas

sorry

Had a squeak in my 91, after checking everything in the car, I found the hood bumper needed adjustment on the right side. Took about five minutes and that ended my squeak.

Hey Kevin, I just cut my dashboard apart, but before I did, I noticed that the screws that Jack speaks of, my screws were in there tight, but the holes that they were supposed to be secured to were missing from the dash. Being that mine and yours are both low mileage '93's maybe somehow the holes on your dashpad somehow disintegrated like mine did.

Just a thought.

Like Stingray 1970 says, it might very well be the hood and not the dash. That's where I'd start.

Get some silicone (or eqiv) spray lube any apply in crevasses or joining panels that are suspect. Keep away from LCD readout. Use the plastic red straw thingy that is taped on the can! Good luck!

I have this same squeak on my 93 coming from around the glovebox area. It is most apparent when it is cold out (below 70 F). Over 70F, the metal, or plastic whatever likely expands sealing it tight.

I took the glove box out and had a friend listen by the glovebox when we went over bumps. They could not locate the source of the noise : (

I have tried the silicone spray route with the little straw. doesn't work. In fact it made a big mess. I don't recommend it.

who knows maybe it is the hood bumper....

if anybody finds the source of this let me know too!

I had this problem on a new '94. I ended up taking the passenger side dash apart and driving it over and over as I replaced each piece. It turned out that the passenger knee pad was the culprit. It only squeaked when tightened down fully. I tried all manners of insulation to no avail. the fix finally turned out to be in NOT tigtening the upper screws all the way. I tightened them normally then backed them all out only about 1/2 of a turn. It never squeaked again and the screws didn't loosen at all from there.

Hope this helps. tom

I did the same thing. I dynamatted everything I could get my grubby little hands on, including the fuse door

Good winter project if you store it. It's not really that bad. The only PIA is figuring out how to get the headlight **** off the first time, though it may be easier on your year.

I always have to take a friend around, and have them "touch and feel" for squeaks.

I won't put a sub in my Corvette, because I know it will only get worse.

I had one in my '86 that stumped me for months until I took everything apart and out of the car and it still squeaked. What I found had happened is that the entire dash is supported by structural members which rest on top of the transmission tunnel. With the radio and A/C controls out I was able to see that there are three 10mm bolts which secure these structural members to the transmission tunnel. All three were loose, and once tightened, the squeak was gone forever.

Everyone present good ideas to try out. As for my '86, it was ultimately one of the speaker screws that was loose. As the car runs and generate vibration, the speaker would move up and down and scrap against the screw, which then makes chalk on chalk board noises! :mad I took off the dash pad and found the culprit. I can even see that parts that rubs together, they're all so shiny! Good luck on your remedy.

I vote for the hood bumper. Go to each corner of the hood with it closed and push down on it, if you feel any play they need to be adjusted. Open the hood and raise ea one until the play is gone. This is what fixed my squeak.
