My 93 LT1 uses a 96 Opti, with a DELTEQ ignition. The rotor in the Opti is cut down just to hold the metal disc that spins within the opti sensor. I then loctited the hardware to keep things solid for many years. Sealed the opti etc. Solid. No issues for several years.
When I turn the key to turn over the engine, it is very slow then spins fast to start. It has always been a fast, spins over quickly, starting engine, till Friday.
The battery is new, and always on a tender when not in use. I do have extra Opti Boxes for the Delteq, as they are spares.
What would cause the engine to start like this? Tune has been the same too..
Thoughts.
My initial thought is that it has nothing to do with your Opti.
In previous life (mopars) that "slooooooww then fast spin to start" was caused by a combination of battery condition, starter condition and compression/timing and then fuel delivery.
Have you changed any timing elements lately or is your starter in good condition?

Battery is a couple years old. It rarely gets driven and is mostly on life support, via the battery tender..
Timing has not changed in years, as it is a custom chip for the 396..
I am going to look at grounds and measure battery voltage during cranking.
Took Vette off of battery tender, showed around 12.4 volts.
Let it set for a while, 2 hrs, and it was at 11.9. So, I trickle charged it 2A overnight, , barely over 12, at 12.1. I think the battery is toast. Weird, there is no date code anywhere, Sears Die Hard Gold. Just a bar code.
Called my SEARS rep, no joy, I bought it unattached to car, so it was open purchased couple years ago. She said, bring it in and she will fix it.

Again, get a new battery and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Playing with chargers and tenders is wasted effort on your current battery. As you stated "It is toast"

I would think the battery has a "heat stamped" date code on the case somewhere!
