I changed my alternator tonight (polished Powermaster) and the belt fell off the bottom pulley. I'm having a very difficult time getting it back on. Is there some kind of trick to getting it on? Help!

Re: Getting serpentine belt on... (VetteWave)
Hey Vinnie on the tensioner there is a place to insert a 1/2 inch drive ratchet or break bar. I found that only a break bar will fit due to space limitations, but if you do that you can then get more than enough space to put the belt back on. The opening is on the front of the tensioner between the pivot bolt and the pulley bolt. Good luck.
maybe i'm readin the post wrong, but do you mean the belt is off completely, as in you can pick it up and throw it across the garage? and it is one peice ( not broken)
The space between the pulley and cross member is very tight ( less than the thickness of the belt).
or just to tight ( short ) to get it back on the pulley.
Release the tensioner ( 1/2 drive ratchet works for that) and move the belt off the tensioner first
The belt just slipped off the bottom pulley when I was using the tensioner. I can't get my hand down on the driver's side.
I called my mechanic (David F) and he told me to take off the frisbee, get the belt on, and put the frisbee back on. I may just keep the frisbee off and see what kind of vibration I get when using the A/C.
Your mechanic had it almost right, just leave the "frisbee" off.
I get my belt on all the pulleys except the A/C compressor pulley and then work it over that pulley as it is most accessable while depressing the tensioner.
I get the belt on all the pulleys eccept for the alternator. It's the smallest pulley and it'll just pop on when loading the tensioner with one hand and sliding the belt on with the other. I always start at the bottom and work my way up to the alternator. Make sure all the grooves are lined up and all the way down in the pulleys or you may eat one end of the belt. ;)
