match balance FW to Flexplate
Can you matchbalance a DM flywheel to a flexplate?
I have engine that is convertet from a auto to a 6spd ZF .
So I have no DM flywheel from that engine to use, only a flexplate.
And I have a DM flywheel from a donor car thats going on that auto engine..
I know that in theory you should be abel to just bolt the flywheel on, as the offset should be the same on all 1pc cranks. But better to be sure I guess..
Cheers

If you have the original flex-plate I would match balance the new SMF to it.
If using the DMF just install it. Worked well for me for several years until the DMF wore out.

So thats why I asked if I need to match balance this used DM flywheel to the flexplate that came with the -91.
But it would be great if I just could bolt it on, as the "offset" balance should be the same on all 1pc cranks..
But im not 100% sure

Thanks.

When I researched it, I found the L98/LT1/LT4 all use the same flywheel balance. I did not have a flywheel to match balance to. I put a L98 DM flywheel on my LT4 without doing any balance to it. It worked fine and I do not have any vibration.
I also had the aftermarket flywheel balanced so I could use them sometime. There is a value for the amount of flywheel imbalance that is used by the factory for balancing these motors. A good shop should know what amount that is.
I had Jim at PowerTorque systems do mine. He is very knowledgeable about the DM flywheels and C4 clutches and hydraulics. He is one of the only people who can remachine the face of the DM flywheel. He was very helpful in talking to me when I was figuring out what to do with mine. You might give him a call.
Good luck.

Yes, im planing to just install this used DMF, without match balance it to the flexplate. And keep my fingers crossed..
I should work, the DMF balance should be the same on all engines using 1pice cranks, If Im not totaly miss informed.
