Anyone know which way the fuel pump sock (filter) should be installed? I was told that you could install it "backward" and cause damage to the pump. Is this true or :bs ?
You observe which way the long end of the sock is pointing before you take it off the pump. Then you put the new sock back on the same way.
Never heard of anyone damaging a pump, but the sock can interfere with the sending unit float, or so it's claimed...when I changed mine, I saw no way it could get under the float.
Yeah, well...that would have been the theory...If there had been enough of it left to see. Besides, I guess I kinda had my head elsewhere ( ) and failed to pay attention :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: .
I put the pump filter on the end of the pump with the filter under the return side.. Take a look and you will see what I mean if the filter covers the bottom of the return side it will be the right direction. Just make sure your sending unit moves and you will be good to go.. It isn't that large a deal on our cars.. can be on some models though. So I'm told.
