Default Steel of flex lines for 700r4 Transmission?

Hello,

Which is better for a standard street car. Steel lines or braided flex lines?

I don't want to loose pressure between transmission and cooler.

Steel I'd think - properly fabricated of course!

x2 take your time and bend em up all steel if you can
No fun having a line blow up on you

Default You won't lose pressure

You won't lose pressure if you use flex, if it has the same ID, because pressure in a hydraulic system is produced by the restriction to the flow of fluid.

Steel is stronger.

op if you have to use any hose try something super strong like goodridge the typical stuff you get in the stores will blow over time

Some flexable lines are ribbed inside and cause psi drop, but you can get smooth bore.

Also you can buy pre-bent steel or stainless lines, I'm sure more than a few corvette merchants carry them and nicopp is an easy bend metal type for DIY.

edit: Almost forgot, it's the fittings that sometimes are the bottle neck, I know some cheaper AN braided line style were a lot smaller than the hose itself. Pushlock style is larger ID but not recommended for hot fluids as they can weaken and blow off.

Don't know why a pressure drop to/through the cooler is a concern. The return fluid from the cooler does not feed anything it is returned to the oil pan.

While I've never done this, I've seen guys use nylon fuel line to fab up tranny cooler lines. They said the line was rated enough for the pressure & temp.
