I wanted to post my results of chasing a DTC 33 on my 89. The car would run normal when the outside temperatures was above 50 or if I let the car warm up before driving it. On cold mornings I would get a CEL and the car would want to die at stops. After it got to operating temperature I could restart the car and I'd have no issue or CEL.
I followed the diagnostic chart from the FSM and everything checked out until I put the MAF in the freezer. I went through the tests again and it finally came down to replacing the MAF. I have a Wells SU145 and found a hairline crack in the circuit board. Best I can figure is that with the car heating up the cracked expanded enough to make contact and allowed it to run correctly.
Thats some good troubleshooting. You recreated the conditions and tested. I too like to test things even though i should "know" the answer because more than once there is a factor that i didnt take into account.
