Cheap crap is cheap crap. It can be made in Nigeria, Vietnam, China or even in the United States. China can make very good stuff, you have to pay for it but they can.

I agree that cheap is cheap, but not everything made in the US is better than from overseas. If it was we wouldn't see Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans etc. on the road today, it would still be only the big 3 like it was when I was young. We would only see Boeing aircraft, not Airbus, Bombardier or others. US industry and workers were arrogant at one time in both price and quality, and others filled the gaps that were opened. I think most people would buy US if quality products were available at a reasonable price, but that's not always the case. There are all kinds of parts that are no longer available except those made or remanufactured overseas.
You have to look no further than most tools, clothing, electronics or other categories, foreign products outnumber US made and they're not all junk. Each person has to make their own decision whether to buy something or not and from where.

I kinda disagree. People are always looking for a $1 solution for a $10 problem which is why they sell the cheap crap. "I'm not a professional" or "I'm not building a race car", etc are the rationalizations. Sure, you aren't a professional or building a race car. We both know that. Lets call it "You are being cheap" and not "on a budget" (whatever that means since all of us are on a budget of some kind or we will be broke).
I agree that location doesn't signify quality. However, as said before, cheap stuff isn't good. That is why it is cheap. Good stuff isn't cheap because it doesn't have to be.
I had a Camaro that I drove between 2 states. We moved bit by bit and maximized space by not carrying the wife. Before I changed the seats, I did haul some lumber and other building stuff out the rear hatch so don't be so sure I wouldn't use the C4 to move. I drive the 3rd Gen F-body with 400HP in the snow and my right fibula broken and ligaments torn and learning left foot braking on the same day.
I apologize for being presumptious I try not to usually just the vibe I was getting. We all know what struggling is about Im sure, weird to see you mention broken fibula my bf just broke his and hes in a walking boot.
Next week I can try to get my Pinto Wagon going and use it more than the vette.
The kybs arent the best or not the right shocks though I wouldnt say they are terrible for casual use.
Im trying to keep my car from taking too big a beating through this all, later on it will still be my car and will still be taken care of. Its actually the first car I have had thats worth putting much money into.
Basically trying to say everyone has their own perspective and needs, no reason to bash the decision times will get better maybe and the car can get better too.
I loved Corvettes since I was little and its a great thing to see people here taking care of these cars and still loving them. And helping others
Not that it makes a hill of beans diff, but Blist. shocks are made on the south side of Indianaplois. Always keeping my ear to the ground to find someone that works there and can get me a reduced price. Not happening tho and its getting time to replace them. When I replace something on the 86, I try to get as good as, or better upgrade.. one pert or system at a time. Like Toni J saidits one car I don't mind putting money into... well less than others anyway. I will go with Blist shocks when I pull the trigger.
If you have the invoice, send it to Bilstein. I did. I have $200 apiece FX3 shocks and they threw them away and sent me 2 new ones when one of the front was leaking after 10 years. Another Bilstein failed in 6 months but oil from the crankcase was blowing on it. My fault. They replaced it too.
They were on it when I bought it in September, and the previous owner did not include the receipt, so, it isnt happening, unfortunately. Though I've thought of trying to get them to do it anyway...

Don't care where it is made. I'm only interested in the performance and whether it is comparable with others of it's price range.
So far, the best price I have seen for Bilstein is on shox.com or eshocks.

D.
That is a problem unless the PO is willing to try run it through on his name.
Well after all this shock talk I went to Summit tonight and bought 4 KYB's for $138 out the door plus there is a $40 mail in rebate so when it was all said and done I have $98 invested in 4 new monotube shocks.
The Bilsteins are 31 years old on my car with 86k mi., so hopefully in about a week i will have them on and report if they are good, bad, or indifferent.
This thread made me do it.

Rest assured regardless of how good you think they are, aklim will still think they are junk...
For the most part he's right. For a 31 year old car that isn't raced or shown i say anything is better than what its got.
On that we agree. It is probably better than 31 year old shocks. I'll even go as far as to say his KYB $30 junk is better than my Bilsteins I just ordered for my truck. Better fit too since we are comparing apples to oranges.
Wow! Did I stir up a hornet's nest! LOL!! I'm having the KYB's installed by my garage guys as I write this and I'll let y'all know how they feel. Peace!
Well after putting the KYBs on and getting about 30 miles on the car I can report they are just fine. Ride, handle, and take bumps well. Better than Bilsteins probably not. Better than my 31 year old Bilsteins with 86k YES.
So out the door I got 4 for the price of 1. As I said earlier I'm not racing or showing this car just a cruiser.

I just got it back from shop with KYB shocks installed. Quite frankly I know their not Blisteins but this car takes bumps, rides and seems to handle much better now. What a difference and as Cjunkie says, "It's just a cruiser" and I drive it not very often.
For now, I've made a good decision on the KYB's. Besides, I've done the math on all I've put into this vette since bought last Sept. 2016 and I've spent a whopping 2200.00 so far...now the digital temperature control panel just went out (temp. adjust button won't turn temp. up) Wow...what's next?!?!?!?!
