so my 85 is giving the old let me cool down till you start me again, it used to take about 45 minutes, now i am up to 90 minutes, my question is it is the original should i just wrap it, or replace and wrap it...

If it were me, if I went through all the trouble of getting under there I would replace it. I got one of the smaller high-torque starters years ago and it works great. I didn't wrap it because there was so much space around it compared to the old one.
Edit- just remembered if you do go for the smaller starter you may need a new positive cable as the solenoid is a few inches further outboard, also the use a smaller cable attachment post. I was able to reuse my cable, no problems, just want to make you aware of that.

Yes, swap it out.
Don't over think this problem; the starter is over 30 years old and has performed thousands of time. Get a new, high torque starter. Swap it and enjoy a cold beer.
I used to hear in shop class the old stator (?) would get out of round and after cooldown it would shrink back down and start. Time for a new starter.
My money is on the solenoid acting up.. If you're brave enough you can short across the hot post, bypassing the solenoid. If it cranks its the solenoid, be prepared for sparks.
