He told me that it is the shifter boot and there is a linkage that is conected to that and it goes to the transmission. I hope this might have helped better. This is what he told me. Is there a shifter boot under the console.
I think he's talking about the reverse lockout linkage. The top of the boot is attached with staples on the factory ones. This is a ring that slips over the shifter and is pulled up to put it into reverse. I replaced my boot with one from Zip. The boot was attached to a plastic base plate that was poorly made but the boot is fine, the plastic plate wouldn't allow the consol to sit flush, and the holes didn't line up with the console top. I took off the plastic base and attached the stock steel plate with weather stripping cement to the boot and used the same cement to attach it to the lockout ring. Looks purfect and has been fine ever since. There is a front and back to this boot and the base plate, so they needs to be put on correctly or it will restrict the throw on the shifter. Even when I got it right it was tight in one direction, but after a bit of use it stretches and loosens up. You may have to play with it a little to get it right. Get it to work first then use the cement. When you get into it you'll see what I mean.
