Doing an engine rebuild on my 1990 l98 tpi.
I was thinking of swapping over to a manual transmission too.
What transmission would work best and what other work would go into it? Is it alot ofwork?
What have you guys done? Please help me out. Open to any ideas.
Thanks,
Danny C

If you actually want a 'manual trans' I believe you sell what you've got and buy what you'd like.
None of the conversions are easy, parts are harder to come by and each install has it's own particular set of unusual unavoidable set of circumstances.
You asked if it was a lot of work?
way more difficult and expensive than you can likely imagine

I was thinking of getting a zf trans. I was told it wasnt too hard. I have a 700r4 in it now. Do you think id be better to upgrade that transmission? I would like to do a manual swap but it does seem like alot of work.

Plenty of write ups on folks having done it with pics and videos. It would be a challenge for sure and for the money, I wouldntl. Might change my mind if mine craps out though.

If you need to ask is it expensive or a lot of work then don't bother. It's nothing personal, it's ALOT of work and if you pay someone it's ALOT of money.
You have your big ticket items but it's all the "small" unforeseen things that really add up quick. You are also still stuck with the D36, just sell your car and buy a 6sp if that's what you want.
Whatever road you decide to take Good Luck
