Default Hard start

I have an 86 with 48k runs well never any major problems, but recently I have been having a hard time starting it when its been run for a bit. If I go out and start it after its been sitting a week, it will start up right away. If It gets hot when I try to start it it cranks and sounds as if it doesnt want to start and when it does it has low Idle until it runs a bit. Also when I take the gas cap off there is a ton of pressure that comes out of the tank. Any ideas or has anyone else had this problem.. Thanks.

You need to get a fuel pressure gauge and do the following tests to check for your problem let me know.. If it appears to be the fuel pump itself and before you go get one.. Instant message me. Pressure should be around 40 at least it is on my LT1 could be different on yours. Regardless of what the pressure is if you have a leak somewhere that is your problem and with the gauge you will see it leak off pressure... It should leak less than a psi an hour..
It is pretty easy to determine which is bad. What I do is hook up my fuel pressure gauge, start the engine and let it run for a minute to stabilize the fuel pressure. Then I shut the engine off and make sure the pressure does indeed drop. Then I start and run again, shut it off and crimp the fuel return line near the tank(all the crimping is near the tank on the rubber lines). If the pressure still drops, I have a bad fuel pump check valve. If it doesn't, then the fuel pressure regulator is bad.

The final test is to build up fuel pressure and crimp both the intake and return lines. If the pressure drops, then I know I have a leaking fuel injector.

Dude I'll bet you have a rusted fuel return line.
Have you done anything lately to the fuel canister or that recovery system?
I'd defenately bet against leaky fuel injecters.
Leaky fuel injectors would cause hard start after sitting for a while.not when warm.
The pressure in the fuel tank is the giveaway.

Ill bet money you have leaky injectors. Test them on 65Z01s site.

You can have them reserviced, or buy the Ford #24 SVO injectors

How does leaky injectors cause fuel tank pressure?
