I've replaced both the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder in pairs twice. They are NEW Wagner (Federal Mogul) parts. They should be good. The slave cylinder says "Girling" on it. That's good since it's OE. Now the clutch master comes in a plastic bag marked "Made in Taiwan". Well, that was my first problem. Just seeing that scared me. I figured, what the heck - I'll try it. Both parts total cost was $205 and they both looked good so I did it.
TWICE. The fluid started turning black in the first one almost right away. When I installed it I flushed the line to slave cylinder out really good with brake fluid. Eventually it got so bad it I jabbed the clutch in, it would work but if I pushed it in slowly, it would go to the floor.
Now the replacement (replaced both again under warranty) has black ink colored fluid. Any ideas? DOT 3 should be the correct fluid. I bled the brakes and they are fine, no problem. Fluid looks good in them, nice and clear.
I had the same thing happened when I replaced the master cylinder, I was told it was the protective oil on the rubber seal on the piston. I replaced the fluid twice and had no problems thereafter
