Default vibration question - source and concern???

my '95 LT1 vibrates pretty badly in the rear when I shift down from overdrive to drive at about 55 - 60mph. I could use some help with what my be going on, and what to check.
thanks for any feedback.

though I'd expect you'd hear something accelerating . I'd also check your bushings along with the u-joints on the drive shaft also. Then the wheel bearings.

if I need to replace a half shaft or drive shaft ujoint should I replace all of them? I have 58K on the odometer.
Also I just found out today that this car (new to me) has not had a lube since 2012 even though only driven 1000 miles.
Can this be a grease job fix?

How is your wheel balance? I've seen a wheel throw a weight and it feels like the back of the car is shaking itself apart.

You will especially note a weight issues during the "transition point" from acceleration to deceleration.

Aside from the balance, I'd check the U joints too....

Each wheel has weights attached but having them balanced is probably a good place to start. Then look into the U joints.

thanks for the idea

checked with two shops today to get an estimate on replacing all six u-joints. They both estimated a whopping 10 hours labor. Basically a $1000 deals. This seems very high.

I will still go the balancing and lube route first, and see what difference it makes.

I have no jacks / lift, and only have average tools. I trust that you are correct and I will be contacting other mechanics. Thanks for the input. 4 hours I can live with.

I just did an alignment on mine and it really smoothed out. I think it can cause vibration tht feels like an unbalanced tire.
