My EGR temp switch is loose at the top. It had at one time come apart from the base and of course gave a check engine light. I screwed it back in and the code is gone, but the darn think is loose at the top of the switch. Will this cause a surge or hesitation when cruising at a normal speed? Any how I ordered one from the Chevy dealership, it will be in tomorrow. What purpose does this $12.00 part do?
When mine went bad like yours,it was coming apart at the top.It didnt cause any driveability problems for me.Just set that code light on.
Btw,to remove the switch plug from the wire harness, you may have to pull the distributor.Which is why its suggested to cut this wire off and splice the new switch on to the old wire.
I tried to unplug the switch from behind the distributor but my hands were too big.
Pulling the distributor gave me the clearance to put it back as stock.
The 2nd time,a few years later the switch broke again,I decided to just cut the wire and splice in the new switch.
Less work and hasnt given me a problem since.
If the ECM fails to see the signal from that sensor it will throw an EGR code; when my ECM did that she ran terribly.
When I had the intake base off recently, I spliced in a section of Grn wire to bring that damn connector up to the right of the dist for easy access. Otherwise just cut the wire a few inches from the sw, splice in the wire from the new sw and heat shrink the joint.
