Re: 870 to 165 conversion successful (corvette0096)
Burn-off Module is behind the breadbox. I used mine but am getting a code 36 which I can disable in programming because the way the stock module does the burn-off is different than the computer controlling it. Swapping pins only took 45 minutes. Two of the wires had to be lengthened to reach. I used a jewelers screwdriver to release the pins. Have your prom burning equipment ready. I ran very rich with the camero memcal that came with the 165. 85's have 24lb injectors not 19 or 22 like what is programmed in the memcal.
That is awesome that you don't have to change the relays. Will the swap somehow cause the MAF module and burnoff to go bad faster?
Also, what is the code 36 (don't have my book here) and what will it cause the car to do (if anything)?
1. The MAF and Burnoff module should have the same life span. From the ecm wiring diagrams from the 870 and 165, the maf power is controlled by the fuel pump signal and the burnoff is started when the ignition is turned off. The only difference is that the 870 burnoff module does the burnoff instead of a relay controlled by the 165 ecm.
2. Code 36 is error code if the 165 ecm doesn't sense a certain voltage going thru the maf during burnoff. There's a 0.3sec delay before the 165 looks for this voltage and if it doesn't see it, a code is set. I think the 870 module works faster or doesn't send the maf signal to the ecm with the ignition off. I disabled this code in the ecm so no error code anymore.
