Engine light - can't put in Diagnostic Mode

Default Engine light - can't put in Diagnostic Mode
I failed smog today due to bad idle speed and engine light. I tried to jump the OBD connector to put in diagnostic mode, but it was if nothing was there. Wires are all connected... so wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

You tried jumpering which pins?

First time I tried this I couldn't get it to work
new I was in the correct pins

after 10 minutes I realized my paper clip had a clear plastic coating

How true....

I fought mine with the paperclip and ended up using a short wire with the ends twisted. It works 100% of the time for me.

Turned out the ECM was bad. New one put in along with several hundred dollars in new cat converters and i'm finally all legal.
