Default outer tie rods.

Hello,
92 lt1 . 46,000 miles . Love the car, but sometimes... LOL. Happened to check the front suspension after fixing the oil filter adapter leak ( still ongoing ) and while I had it up on jack stands. I'm like , what the hell ? Why not ? Just more money, lets check out the front suspension ? Up and down no play, but side to side was bad. Very bad. Sooooo. I replace the outer tie rods only. They were shot. Went with the store brand 25 dollar specials, instead of the rare part oem 116.00 dollars a piece replacements. It's better ? But I think the car needs a lot more work to be right ? It runs and drives for now. It's just so disappointing that someone before me , just beat down such a nice car right into the ground . I'm trying here guys. It's a part time project for me. I'm still fighting the good fight . That's my report. Over and out.

When my front end got sloppy, I went for the outer tie rod ends as well. I got a bump steer kit which started a series of try this and try that, from then on. It was little better, but then it seemed as if something else was still wrong.

How did you determine the old outer tie rod ends were bad? I tried fiddling around with them, they seemed like I should not trust them.

I decided to just buy a whole kit to do the whole front end. Ball joints, delrin bushings, heim link sway bars, poly bushings for the bars, and rack and pinion, blah blah... you get the point. All but wheel bearings, and shocks. I could not make up my mind on the shocks.

In addition to tie rod ends, you need to check things like the hubs, ball joints, etc. It could be a cumulative effect, a little play in each adds up to a large amount of play overall.

Have you checked the inner tie rod ends in the rack boots? Also when checking the tie rod ends have someone turn steering wheel very slow and observe the steering linkage or have them hold the wheel tight and grab the tire and move it left-right, an alignment shop will also inform you of worn parts that need replacement and should be done after any front end work.

Being out of alignment will eat tires fast, be careful.

Definitely! Been there and did that after doing my outer tie rods and ball joints. Get the alignment sooner than later, unless you want to waste and buy new tires?

These cars are elephants.... we have to eat them one bite at a time

I guess it depends on what is good or bad?
