Radio cuts out
I have the Delco/Bose radio in my 88 and it cuts in and out. Sometimes I can turn it on and I can barely hear music if I turn it all the way up then it will crackle and pop and I hear sound from all of the speakers. It's not just one speaker that fails but all of them. Is this the radio giving out or something else causing the sound to fade in and out? I would like to put another radio in it's place but I am not sure if a good face plate is sold that will fill in the gaps around the new radio. If I replace the radio will I have to get new speakers as well? Thanks

I have an 88 also, my radio did the same thing. I replaced it with a pioneer cd player looks pretty good. I was told that since I had a Bose system that if I went with another radio besides Bose that I would have to replace all speakers and wiring. Well I did all the above and the sound is 110% better than the Bose would ever be. The job wasn't that bad to change out either.

Your radio is made up of several circuit boards and modules interconnected with plugs and sockets. You need to take the radio apart and unplug, use contact cleaner and replug back together. Also , I would spray contact cleaner in all of the controls, ie, volume, bass, treble.
