Default Need help with backspacing/offset

Today I saw yet another C4 with 11" a-mold rears only this time they only hung out less than 1/4". "That does it" says I, "I'm doin' it."

Can you guys please school me in the nuances of C4 wheel backspacing/offset regarding ZR1 vs. GS vs. 9.5 vs. 8.5 vs. sawblade vs. a-mold vs. balogna slicer vs. whatever-the-hell and if there are differences in hub flange location year to year?

I wanna do this right but my dial indicator hates me. Muchas Gracias.

The ZR-1 and the GS factory rims will bolt right on your 94. You can get the aftermarket GS flares from a few different companies. The factory rims use a 9.5" in the front and a 11" in the rear. You can also go to an aftermarket rim company and get the factory size and backspacing rims in chrome. I think Ecklers or Mid America sell the rims and the aftermarket flares.

I would try AFS as far as the ZR1 5-spoke knock-off's go. If not them...contact TPiS, they're who I got my 17x9½ Polished 5-spokes through (Only paid $888 with shipping!) The rear 11"ers WILL stick out...that's because the GS's came with flares and the ZR1's just plain out had a wider rear. But I'm sure AFS or TPiS has 11" rears that will BEARLY stick out.

Thanks. That's precisely the kind of info I'm looking for. I'd like to avoid flares and I've seen a few cars (like the one today) that didn't need 'em. I just don't know what offset I should be looking for.

There should be a :Dumbazz: smiley for guys like me.

rocketfinger, you received precisely NO DATA from these posts. I'm primarily referring to whomever continues to post on behalf of VBP.

The 11" rear wheels that you saw that were tucked in had a 50mm offset. If they were ZR1 wheels they would have stuck out, and they have a 36mm offset. To my knowledge, the only Amold wheels made with the 50mm 11" rears were GS wheels. (ie. black) There are knock offs sold that are available in the silver finish. The A mold's weigh ~ 21lbs for the 9 1/2" and ~ 23lbs for the 11's. I have not weighed the knock off Amolds, but some of the other OE style rims where considerably heavier. (I want to say~35-40lbs)
Running the GS eyebrows to "cover" the ZR1 wheels is not viable if the car has been lowered. You will bottom out the fender lip on the tire. You will need to get the proper alignment (some negative camber in front and rear.) If you want some ideas, check out the archives/search. If that fails, let us know and we will help.

h rocks is correct. I just put 11's on the rear of my '95. I got them from Discount Tire Direct and they are made by OE Concepts. They have the 50 mm offset and fit perfectly under the fender. The do stick out a very small amount, but it looks awesome.

Go with the 50mm offset 11" for the rear and I guarantee you will be happy with the look.

personally id go with the grandsport wheel. It has a 50 mm offset compared to the zr1 which is 36mm. They will stick out a touch. my old setup had the gs rears. I lowered the car and went .75' negative camber and they tucked in fine.... although one side was sticking out about 2 mm more.. which is normal i hear. My new combo fits 11.5 inches on my 93. I have 19 X 11.5 with a 295/25/19 tire. doesnt stick out at all. Thats because the tire is so small. I used to think the 315s are balloons. If you notice the tire actaully comes out away fromt the rim about 1/4 inch. Its the tires, not the wheels. =)

YO, h rocks I am merely trying to point him in the right direction. We are not a rim or tire manufacturer so I was giving names of places who might have that info.
