Default Removing P/S pulley

Got a little anxious trying to remove the power steering pulley on a '95 by using a 2-jaw puller, and pretty much turned the pulley into a taco! Should I have NOT used an impact???

I have no hopes of repairing the pulley, but since I have a core-charge on the pump, need to remove it. Is there a better device (3-jaw style?) to use (or did I miss an important step)?

*Also, where do I pick up a new pulley??? When Rockauto doesn't carry something, I get nervous!

Thanks!

wrong tool - you need a puller specifically designed to remove PS pulleys similar to this -

I've never done an LT1 car, but i'm guessing the same applies.

BTW, the same tool also installs the pulley. they are usually universal, and remove a variety of manufacturer's pulley types. also, NO impact wrench - hand tools only - on and off slowly

I bought an inexpensive set years ago - think the maker is OTC. probably used it a dozen times w/o issues. they usually cost around $30 or so.

you can buy one at just about any parts store, or autozone, advanced, or o'rileys has a tool loaner problem. as for the pulley itself, good luck finding one in stock for a 20+ year old corvette. it may be something you'll have to order or get on-line - maybe even fleabay.

edit: HOLY SCHITT!!! I don't know if this is the norm, or what, but you may have made a costly mistake. fleabay, used 94-96 pulley, (drumroll) $250 -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-1996-C4...ZYfSdY&vxp=mtr

seems to be a discontinued part (GM PN 10227069). it's probably all about supply and demand -

+1...those pulleys are pressed on pretty good. A 2/3 jaw puller usually is not going to do the job.

You also need the tool to properly install the pulley on the new pump. They do not like to go on easily. Went through this with my '76 Camaro last summer.

No idea where you would find a replacement pulley. You may have to research a cross referenced part to the GM part and maybe find one in a wrecking yard.

Good Luck.

Using the tool when you put it back on is important that it is. In the right position so serpentine belt is not misaligned. I tthik the fsm has picture and how to do it and of the tool used. I either got mine at napa or harbor freight.

Forgot to ask if belt is a single sided or a double sided serpentine belt. If doble yo may want to replace idler pulleys for single sided. Belts last longer.

I used a cheap power steering puller/installer from harbor freight. Worked great and was about thirty bucks for the kit.

I would reach out to this fellow and ask advice and help! I'm quite sure they do some specialty pulleys for Saginaw pumps -
