Need help on 95 window adjustment
My passenger side has a bad leak, the window needs to go up (maybe forward some) to fit under the lip of the weatherstrip.
I searched but didn't find any good threads with pics, and most are old and PDF write ups have been removed etc. The ones I did find with a description were hard to follow without pics, to know what area/bolt they were referring too, and not sure if the earlier cars were different?
I have the panel off, and I think there are two bolts (how many are there?) recessed behind frame at the top of the door, one in the center and one on the right, with the circular nuts that press the round pads against the window. I loosened these, being careful not to loosen too much that they might fall off. It didn't allow me to raise window, just wiggle a bit on each side, up/down, felt like it attached in the middle.
Am I even in the right area to adjust height? What about if I need to move it foward into A pillar? I read some say this did it, and others say the inner door panel has to be removed to get to the bottom bracket of the window? (I have replaced the regulator on one of the doors years ago, and it was a PIA to remove panel, so I hope I don't need to remove.)
Anyone with pics/drawing with the adjustment points labeled?
Thanks
Do you only have to loosen those two bolts to move the window up? Do you have to remove the panel to get to them? Have there been any changes to the doors over the years, where mine might look different? Can I adjust with the window up, or do I need it down half way, all the way?...
Really surprised no one has done a detailed video or write up with pics after all these years. Doors are a common problem area with many issues.
So which adjustment points should I try first to raise the window or move it forward?
( I guess you have to remove the foam sound deadening and aluminum panel to get to any of this...I was hoping I would not have too.
For those that will need to do this, here are some basic instructions:
-remove outer door panel (many write ups on this)
-reconnect window switch so you can adjust window (remove from door skin and then reattach)
- adjust window a little more than half way down. Look behind foam insulation to watch for the 2 10mm bolts with big washers attached, one above the other, on lower corner of window (lower right on passenger door) These are labeled as Nut & Washer Assembly #3 on diagram. Just loosen a little, so you can adjust the window, but it still holds most of the weight. It doesn't look like these would allow you to do much, but you can move the window up, down, left/right, tilt front/rear corners up/down. (you don't need to remove foam insulator or inner alum. door panel to get to these.
- then just test fit by slowly closing door and feeling/looking for gaps/fit. Make sure you have the hanging door latch pulled up so you don't close it in the door.
-I had to loosen and tighten to get it to where it looks/feels like it fits well.

I just did mine again after replacing weather-strip, took several hours of trail and error, and still not perfect, but close.
Move one part at a time, a small amount, then test. Close the door easy the first time, to make sure glass doesn't hit paint etc., then close normally and evaluate.
Once you get it where it seems good, test with a piece of paper to see if you can slide it easily by window, you should not be able to. Also have a spray water bottle to test for leaks.
Another thing to test before you put back together, is to make sure the window will go down when all the way up and door closed. I had mine where it would seal well, but it was to tight, and once up and closed, would not go down.
Here are a couple of videos I found recently that helps show adjustment bolts and what they do.
One thing that is not shown in the diagram, but shown in the video, is the bolt in the square hole, it adjusts the up/down of the front of the window. You can just leave loose, and use the 2 bolts at the rear to do most of the adjustment, then tighten once in position.
There are slight differences over the years. I had trouble with the "tilt" adjustment, until I realized on my 95, it is different than early years. The early years had a bolt behind the panel running sideways, but at some point GM changed to an Allen head set screw with a nut. I didn't notice the Allen head until I found this video. So you have to loosen nut, then adjust Allen head. The more you spread the clamp, the more the window tilts in. This is not intuitive, and a terrible design IMO.
My 96 Driver's side is almost completely disintegrated and now will not adjust and I haven't found a replacement part.
I have the ability to 3D print a new one, but I need a GOOD one first.
Good luck and post what you found, please!
Also, this is a very HOT topic and several have expressed interest in sticking this thread.
I agree that is a good idea, but first we need a good video of ALL 95-96 window adjustments, IMHO.
