Default melted MAF sensor

what would cause my MAF to melt on the inside of it and would it cause it to not want to idle and hesitate on acceleration? Its an 87 with the 4+3.
It has had an idle problem for several months it smoked because of the bad valve seals so i thought that was causing the idle problem so i replaced them but still the stalling, hesitation and rough idle.Ive also replaced the fuel pressure regulator fuel filter air filter spark plugs cap and rotor.Fuel pressure is around 30 psi. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi
First thing , are you getting the check engine light come on?
You can check the codes stored by putting a paper clip in the top right hand terminals on the connector under the dash, check how many times it flashes and count them write them down.
for example 3 flashes pause 4 flashes = code 34 then google the codes.

The EGR exhaust recirculation valve can stick open,
check it goes up with vacuum applied and closes fully when vacuum is disconnected.

Check your TPS throttle position sensor, top two wires should have 0.54volts dc at idle or ignition on engine off.

Check the voltage goes to 4.5vdc full throttle or at least 4 volts.

The sensor wire in the MAF is the important bit, the ecm checks the voltage for airflow value.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the ecm wire near battery or battery, sometimes iff my car runs rough it is just the ecm trying to compensate for a error.
It can get itself in knots trying to manage it, resetting the ecm helps which I have found quite often.

Good luck
