I finally decided to see why the cruise control doesn't work on my 84. I was looking at the vacuum hoses that connect to it and noticed that one of them was missing. Someone had just stuffed it under the battery!! I simply need to reconnect it, BUT the plastic piece that the hose fits over broke off with the hose and is still stuck in the end of it. Is it possible for me to order just the part where the hoses connect to?? Or does anyone have this part just laying around?? :D TIA!
Oldace...its an Accumulator ...there is not enough constant/steady vacuum pressure if the CC was just connected to a vacuum on the manifold. RPMs go up and down...as you know... That little ball thingy ...as you so eloquently put it... stores vacuum so the CC won't shut off automatically while you are using it. Any variation in pressure will shut the CC off, that is why the break peddle has a switch, every time you hit the break it opens the vacuum and releases pressure and shuts off the CC.
Joby...You are correct the servo is mounted on top of the battery. I got that picture out of the main Helms service manuel. I know the servo is located incorrectly but I just wanted to get an idea of what Boo was talking about. The picture still has the same vacuum hoses.
It's the hose that runs to the accumulator ball. I am not looking at it now, but I think there is only one hose that runs from the CC unit to the ball.
