I'm installing my Hurst right now and have run into a problem. I've got the rubber boot pulled back, and the ring moved out from the way of the gear pin, and I'm trying to drive the pin out of the gear shaft/rod. But for the life of me it does not want to budge, and I'm hitting it pretty hard. I am positive the ring wire is out of the way on the top. Any ideas??
Sorry can't give any help. but would like to know how your installation is going. How hard was it? Any advice you can give on install.
I just ordered the Hurst shifter, should be here next week.
Any info you can give would be helpful,
thanks,
Mike
Mikez40, there is someone on this forum that has detailed instructions and pictures on his web page of the Hurst install. Run a search and hopefully you can find it, the web page really helped me with my install. Also, the Hurst install can be very frustrating, so be prepared.
I've done two of these installs and the second install went much quicker because I took down the exhaust(not hard at all). The pin can be tight coming out but will come if the lock ring is out of the way.:smash: The job may be somewhat frustrating but well worth the effort IMHO.
Also, Chrise Rinehart, the Hurst Engineer who is responsible for the C4 and C5 shifters is available by email for questions at gt1479b@prism.gatech.edu
Just did mine yesterday (along with a clutch change (which total time took me a week)). My pin popped right out after I moved the ring out of the way. BTW do not remove that ring, or else you will never be able to get the ring back on without bending it back into shape.
Simply push that ring further up the shaft, so all you have to do is slide it back down. good luck
Well, finally got it installed. I still could not get the gear pin out, so I decided to take another route. I unbolted the housing from the tranny and took off the lower boot, exposing the flange pin. Knocked that out, and got the shifter out. Assembled the Hurst and put it back in the car and reassembled everything, except the stock exhaust, which I replaced with Corsas. :D
Corsas sound AMAZING, and the shifter is UNBELIEVEABLE. I love them both, well worth the hard work.
