84 dash cluster in an 86?

84 dash cluster in an 86?
I bought an 84 speedo cluster from a forum member(forget user name) for my 86 and it works great(good transaction too), but it does not line up right with the bezel. Upon further inverstigation the bezel changed from 85-86. Does anyone know if there is anyway to remedy the problem, short of buying an 84 bezel?

Without having the 84 cluster in front of me, I can't be sure. But, the only mounting difference should be the black casing. You could try carefully removing the 84 cluster internals and installing them in your 86 cluster casing. After that it should fit right in.

The old one is pretty much shot. The center crystal is cracked and the back-lighting is gone. I have already repaired the contacts once and they looked like they were repaired once before that, and besides I think that I have got the old one sold for the good crystals it has left(still haven't gotten the money for it though). The 84 seems to mount a little lower than the 86. Meaning that after I put the 84 cluster in and put the 86 bezel on top of it, the crystals(all of them) are about 1/4 inch to low to completely show through the 86 bezel openings, and on the top side of the crystals as well. They are the right size geometrically but located a little off. I am going to play with it this weekend and see if I can move it up somehow.

Hey, those lenses that I bought from you could not be saved. The fire caused an excessive amount of heat and it fried the etched contacts. If you do not get the old one sold, I am still looking for a functional and non-damaged speedo lens.
