Default Dash buzz at 1800rpms

I have this really annoying dash buzz that happens intermittently on my 91.

It seems to come from the driver side vent, headlight switch area. I can "sometimes" get it to buzz by tapping on the dash, but not consistently.

I do however get the steady buzz at about 1800-2000 rpms-even in park. So I'm thinking the the noise is engine harmonics/vibration rated. I know the LT5 engine is notorious for a drone about that range.

Anyone else have this issue and were you able to identify the spot? I'm about to begin taking things apart and attacking with foam, tape so I'd appreciate any pointers!

Have you considered using peel n' seal, it's a rubber based, aluminum faced tape that can be used to add mass to the panel, therefore changing the harmonics in which it will vibrate...just another alternative.

Yes, I have more tape, foam and sticky stuff on the inside of my dash than you can imagine.

I've taped/foamed the cluster, vents, wiring harnesses, vents, dash pad, headlight switches... I have more stuff taped than not at the moment!

I'm just looking if anyone had particular luck with that 1800 range,

Just some thoughts here. Are you sure it's coming from the dash and not the engine compartment? Try lifting the hood and see if it still does it including listening under the hood.
If not there, then sounds like you're going to have to start digging and do some tightening of everything in the dash.

Sorry - best thoughts at the moment.

I took a day off yesterday and went after it-- again. More foam and tape and it still comes back.

I'll take the targa off today and turn up the radio, That will work.

This may not apply but last weekend I repaired the cluster in my '86. While I had it out I found a corner of the plastic dash support was broke off right above the headlight switch. This let the whole side of move up & down. Rattle city. I fashioned a brace from a starter shim & some screws. Fixed. I know the later dash is different but the support hardware are in the same places. Good luck with it.
