You drilled the trans tunnel for a backup switch?

What?

If you go to lowes, or most hardware stores you can find a push in electrical box plug. They come in sizes ranging from 1/2" to 2.5" just drill the hole to the proper size for the plug you use. They create a weather tight seal. And if done right it would look like the factory did it. Nice thinking outside of the box. As long as it is done right I wouldn't see a new owner having a problem with it at all.

Either style will work fine, the one that does not have a wingnut can easily be sealed with clear silicone, then just push it into place. I have seen several s 10 and ranger trucks with v8 swaps, they drill holes to allow the bellhousing bolts to be accessed from inside the car, it allows for a better engine fit without having to rework the firewall. Much more common than people think. And if you look at various Nissan, Toyota, and other cars they setup access to various parts of the car through the interior with the same type of access holes or panels. Just because gm did not see a need to give access to that part from the interior does not mean it is a hack job to give yourself an access point. Especially if you drill a clean hole and plug it properly. These cars are not rare, or the holy grail of automotive engineering, sometimes some modifications can make the car easier to work on. Especially if it's going to be a track car.

I know they are not rare, I've got plenty. I cut certain areas in the race car for things. But not the tunnel/firewall.

Track car needs a back up switch? Next thing your going to tell me, that a track needs the CAGS solenoid as well. Here is my back up switch for a race car.

Here is the cover plate after installation.
should make any future backup switch replacements a 5 minute job, without jack stands or a lift.
