Thanks in advance. Has anyone swapped the bose front speaker in the door? Is it as easy as removing the cover and out with the old, in with the new? The PO said he unhooked the speaker because it was "cracking". I'm assuming it is just the traditional blown speaker, but I don't want to swap it out if there may be an underlying issue with the "surround" I've seen in some youtube clips. Any advice is appreciated!

You can't swap it with just any other speaker, it has to be a Bose because of the ohms and amplifier difference. If the speaker is not working it may just be a resistor... do a search, there are places that can inspect/repair them.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked around online more and didn't realize that the "system" was so specific and complicated. Thankfully Eckler's has a replacement Bose speaker that should be plug and play with the existing amp/surround housed inside the door. Hopefully that's the answer!

The other answer is to rewire and ditch the Bose which blows. You can get better sound for less money but the selling point to me is that when one component goes bad, you can easily replace it. Another selling point is that you don't know how long it will be still available. Finally, why pay good money to fix a sinking ship?
Unless you are trying to keep the factory look, rewiring for modern speakers will sound much better. It's not a difficult project I was able to do it in an evening on my '85.

Got a pic? Just curious what it looked like in the earlier years. Mine was a 91 and it was a kick panel or whatever you called it at door sill. You had to remove the sill to do it. I changed the Bose bracket to a NON-BOSE option and picked whatever Crutchfield said would fit a 91 Corvette NON-BOSE. At the time, IIRC, my bicep, rotator cuff and elbow tendon (or was it ligament) was FUBAR so I got it apart and had them do the wire running. Left 3 feet of wire hanging out and I drove home. Installed speakers in the brackets, mounted brackets in and wired up. Rinse and repeat for all 4.

Are you looking for a pic of the speaker enclosure or where/how it mounts in the door ? I have the enclosures out of my 89 that I can take pics of if you want.

I have the enclosures out of the doors, I will post pics tomorrow. The doors are all sealed up, but if I ever have to take them apart again I will get some pics.
