700R4 problem
Unfortunately, the last run I did the car seemed not to want to shift from 2nd to 3rd. I backed off the throttle a bit and she changed up OK. Went to drive her today, and now she won't shift out of first! Checked tranny fluid levels, and worked the shift through the range, all to no avail.
I knew I'd have to upgrade the tranny at some point, but didn't expect to hurt it so soon!
So, what do you think has broken, and what should I do at this stage to support 600 horses? Guess I'll put taller gears on at the same time, as I'm still stock at the moment.
TIA
Steve

You will have to rebuild it, every year or so! You should seriously consider upgrading to a 4L80E ( conversion kit's can be had )...or converting to the TH400 with a Gear Vendors overdrive ( complete kits are available as well ).
Other than that, maybe converting to a 6 speed manual would handle the power.
I guess I was asking about upgrade paths, as I never expected the stock Tranny to last long - although a little bit longer then it actually did might have been nice!
So I'll be relying on advice from those who have gone before. I visited all the quoted threads, and there's lots of good info there. I guess my bottom line is I want a tran which will handle the power....plus 300 more when the NOS kit goes on :reddevil ... and ideally, it should bolt right up.
Converting to the TH400? Do you mean replacing the R4 with a TH400, or can changes be made to turn one into the other? I've heard nothing but good things about the Gear Vendors overdrive unit, BTW.
I considered upgrading to a manual, but I really prefer autos.
